Direct Primary Care

Here are answers to the questions we hear most often about direct primary care membership. If you don't see your question here,

reach out and I'll answer it directly.

What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?

It's a healthcare model where you pay a monthly fee straight to your provider instead of billing insurance. That fee covers a wide range of primary care services. No copays. No insurance claims

How does DPC differ from traditional insurance-based primary care?

Direct primary care removes insurance from the relationship. You get near unlimited access to your provider for one fixed fee. Visits run longer. Pricing stays clear. You don't wait on insurance approvals.

What services are covered under DPC?

Your Direct Primary Care membership includes:

  • Preventive care and wellness checkups

  • Chronic disease management

  • Acute visits for illness or injury

  • Minor in-office procedures

  • Same day or next day appointments when needed in most cases

  • Longer, unhurried visits

  • Transparent pricing with no surprise bills

Is direct primary care just for individuals, or can my family join too?

Families are welcome. Family membership comes with discount pricing. You can enroll everyone in your household and choose the option that fits best.

How much does membership cost, and what's included?

Pricing is based on age and billed monthly. Visit the Services and Membership page for the current fee schedule and what each tier includes.

Do I still need health insurance if I join?

Not necessarily but it is recommended to have health insurance if able to. Direct primary care isn't a replacement for health insurance. It covers your primary care needs. You'll still want insurance for specialist visits, hospital stays, and emergencies.

Can I join if I have an existing health condition?

In most cases, yes. This model works well for managing ongoing conditions. Longer visits and direct access make chronic disease care easier to stay on top of. During your first visit, if your needs do not align with the scope of services offered, you'll be told upfront. There's no charge for that visit.

Can I see a specialist, or do I need a referral?

Yes. We help coordinate specialist care. We provide referrals whenever they're needed.

What if I need medication, lab tests, or imaging?

We can order prescriptions, lab work, and imaging as part of your care. Costs for these services are usually separate from membership. They can often be billed through your insurance or with cash pay pricing and discount programs that we will help you navigate.

How do I cancel my membership?

Cancellation terms are outlined in your membership agreement. In general, 30 days notice is required. That gives enough time to transition your care to a new provider. It also gives enough time to handle any recurring prescriptions properly.

What is a Family Nurse Practitioner?

I'm Trevin Rube, APRN, FNP-C. I'm a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner. In Texas, that means I'm a licensed nurse with advanced, graduate level training in primary care.

That training covers diagnosing conditions, creating treatment plans, and prescribing medicine. It also covers ordering tests, reading results, and managing health needs at every age.

Nurse practitioners in Texas are licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing. We hold national certification in our specialty.

As your Family Nurse Practitioner, I handle the same day to day primary care work you'd expect from any provider in a family medicine or primary care practice. My focus stays on prevention, patient education, and building a real relationship with you over time as well as handling acute illnesses and injuries as they occur.
